Product Development Manager

Position: Product Development ManagerLocation: Mississauga

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Innovation, the Product Development Manager will be working cross functionally to lead product development and product improvement, and expand the category profitably beyond traditional lines, while providing insights and innovation to customers.

The role involves leading and implementing “next level “projects from concept and formulation to plant trials, launch, production, post-launch, and review, while overseeing a team. The chosen candidate will manage several projects concurrently within Product Development, creating accountability to hit timelines.

Overview of Responsibilities:

- Development of new products, reformulation of existing products, conducting research and experiments, gathering data, interpreting findings, and preparing written reports looking at innovation, improving quality and/or margins- Oversee projects and team providing food science leadership, working with stakeholders to review projects, technical risk mitigation, and post-project follow-up- Achieve consensus and look at impacts, presenting R&D product options and future steps- Collaborate closely with production and other stakeholders to test, lead plant trials, scalability, and oversee new product start-ups- Documentation of new products, including processing, nutritional information, ingredients, and product runs- Shelf-life testing of new and revised products and submissions for third party lab testing when needed- Use Genesis program to enter and track nutritional information- Expand the category researching current and new raw materials, applications, and suppliers, considering quality and cost- Arrange and present customers, marketing, product prototypes, and project presentations to management


- At least 8 years’ experience in R&D/Food Science- At least 3 years’ demonstrated management experience motivating a team- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Food Chemistry or related- Passion for food and experience in confectionary, baking and /or snack category preferred- Experience managing projects along with plant trials and start-ups- Technical, product development, and application skills with advanced knowledge of functional ingredients- Strong computer skills including MS Office, Genesis, and JD Edwards, an asset- Ability to occasionally travel- Attention to detail and accuracy with strong research and analytical skills- Self-motivated, creative, and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize, manage timelines, and meet deadlines- Proven ability to work collaboratively across all levels, functions, and with internal and external stakeholders- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate complex information to all audiences technical and non-technical.
